Iowa, Indiana and Ohio were the three largest egg producing states during the past year, with each state producing in excess of 10 billion eggs during the past year.
In the most recently released United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) Poultry – Production and Value report, revealed the number of eggs produced in each of the major egg production states. Those numbers were compiled by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) from December 1, 2020 through November 30, 2021.
The 10 largest producers and the number of eggs produced in those states during this period are:
- Iowa – 14,980,300,000
- Indiana – 10,606,800,000
- Ohio – 10,456,000,000
- Pennsylvania – 8,111,000,000
- Texas – 6,420,500,000
- Georgia – 5,064,200,000
- Michigan – 4,541,900,000
- Arkansas – 4,248,700,000
- North Carolina – 4,093,600,000
- California – 4,019,600,000
The rankings among the top seven producing states were consistent when compared to the previous 12-month period, but increased production in Arkansas prompted some shuffling near the bottom of the list. Arkansas ranked 10th during the previous year, but saw an increase of more than 400 million eggs for the most recent year to leap to eighth. North Carolina and California also saw small increases in egg production during the past year, but each state slipped one notch to ninth and tenth, respectively.
NASS complied data on egg production in every U.S. state where eggs are produced, but the agency only released state-specific information for Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
All other states produced a combined total of 7,034,400,000 eggs. State-specific information for those remaining states was not disclosed to avoid disclosing data regarding individual operations, the report said.
The report also offered information on the top broiler producing states and the top turkey producing states.
