Select Vital Farms’ egg offerings will be available in all 50 U.S. states in 2023, following a new partnership with food distribution company Dot Foods.

Dot Foods has a network of 5,200 distributors across the U.S. Vital Farms hopes to get its products to additional foodservice operators, brunch and family-owned restaurants and smaller chains.

Dot Foods will distribute three of the egg producer’s products including bulk cases of 180 shell eggs, 20-pound bags of liquid eggs and hard-boiled eggs in a grab-and-go 2-count package.

Ash Idais, Vital Farms Senior Director, Foodservice, said: "In the early days of Vital Farms, our founder hand-delivered eggs to Austin restaurants from the back of his Subaru. Fast forward 15 years—it's exciting to now have vendors like Dot helping us bring more ethical food to tables across the country."

Vital Farms’ production at Egg Central Station expanded too

In May 2022, Vital Farms expanded its egg washing and packing facility Egg Central Station, located in Missouri, which was estimated to bring in US$300 million of additional revenue. The expansion doubled the facility in size, enabled a larger production capacity and added 50 employees to the company.

The expansion was LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certified by using solar panels to decrease the producer’s electricity usage and greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the producer used LED lights to improve its energy efficiency by 50%, bioretention tools to conserve 700,000 gallons of water annually and a washroom design that mitigates humidity.

The company’s efforts earned media company Food Processing’s “Green Plant of the Year 2022” award in November 2022.

After winning the award, the producer commented: “We’re proud to share this award with the Springfield community and our crew members, who have been vital collaborators and supporters since day one. Without them, this award wouldn’t be possible. We hope this recognition inspires others to consider sustainable manufacturing design solutions to help protect the earth for future generations.”
