Monthly shipments of poultry meat from Brazil (considering all products: fresh, salted and processed) again exceeded 420,000 metric tons (MT), the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reported. In April 2016, shipments reached 421,000 metric tons, 25 percent higher than the previous year. This is the second-best result in the history of the sector.

With this, cumulative exports in 2016 reached 1.46 million metric tons, a volume 15.4 percent higher than the first four months of 2015.

Thanks to the strong pace, foreign exchange earnings reached an increase of 9.8 percent, compared to 2015, to reach US$620 million in April 2016. Between January and April 2016, Brazil's poultry meat exports totaled US$2.1 billion, a retraction of 2.17 percent compared with the previous year.

The final balance is even more positive in Brazilian real income, an increase of 28.7 percent in April 2016, with BRL2.21 billion (USD.62 billion), and 27.1 percent in the quarter, with BRL8.01 billion (USD2.26 billion).

"The international market is still favorable to Brazilian exports, even with the high production costs we faced in the beginning of the year. This is one of the sectors that has generated more wealth to the country, so it is essential that the competitiveness of the production chain is preserved,” notes ABPA CEO Francisco Turra.
