Bright future forecast for Ukraine broiler industry

Broiler production costs in Ukraine are among the lowest in the world, James Truscott, director of Cobb Germany, told a two-day seminar organized by the company in Cherkasy.

Broiler production costs in Ukraine are among the lowest in the world, James Truscott, director of Cobb Germany, told a two-day seminar organized by the company in Cherkasy.

“Major companies in Ukraine are in a favorable position using the Cobb500 broiler to compete with Brazil in broiler meat production costs and are leading the list in front of other countries like Argentina, Thailand and Russia,” he said.

More than 120 delegates attended the event including Cobb customers, independent farm managers and a number of supply companies from Ukraine and further afield.

In his welcoming speech, Vasyl Babych, Cobb Germany regional market manager, said the Cobb500 is well suited to Ukraine because the breed is always strong in countries where production is mainly in the hands of fully integrated companies.

Babych said next year would be 20 years since the first Cobb500 breeder flocks arrived in Ukraine. The industry was eager for knowledge then and this continues to be the case, he said.

“Without doubt, Cobb has had an immense impact on the country’s poultry industry to help ensure this country is the leader in cost-efficient chicken meat production,” Babych said.

The seminar offered sessions on breeder and broiler topics and was supported by Cobb Europe representatives Paul Welten and Martijn Gruyters, with Sabine Tacke from Wimex and veterinarian Dr. Stefan Mueller Molinar from MMT.
