A worker at a Michael Foods egg processing plant in Wakefield, Nebraska, died September 26 as a result of injuries suffered on the job.

According to an email sent to the Sioux City Journal from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) a dock leveler dropped unexpectedly, hitting the employee. OSHA stated that it is investigating the incident.

The worker’s identity has not yet been released.

Michael Foods, a subsidiary of Post Holdings, issued the following statement concerning the accident: “We had a tragic accident at our Wakefield facility in which we lost a valued team member. The entire team at Michael Foods is deeply saddened by this loss and we extend our condolences to the family.” Said a Michael Foods spokesperson. “Safety is always our top priority, and we are currently investigating the accident but can confirm that there is no threat to other workers or public safety. Out of respect for the family and employees we will not be commenting further at this time.”

The company experienced another worker death at its operations in Wakefield in June 2014. That incident occurred when a 23-year-old worker was found unresponsive in a tanker truck at the facility. According to OSHA, he was conducting sampling of the tank, which contained egg products and nitrogen, and he died as a result of exposure to that nitrogen. OSHA proposed fines totaling $30,900.

The plant in Wakefield recently underwent a $33 million two-phase expansion, that began in 2013.
