Eighteen people were sent to a nearby hospital to be evaluated after an ammonia leak occurred at a Tyson Foods plant in Clarksville, Arkansas.
The leak occurred on the morning of September 16.
Tyson Foods spokesperson Gary Mickleson told KNWA the 18 people were evaluated at the hospital “out of an abundance of caution.” One person was admitted to the hospital, but has since been released.
“We’re grateful for the quick response and assistance of the local fire department and EMS. The plant has resumed normal operations,” Mickleson said.
Tyson Foods, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, processed 192.33 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2018. It’s closest rival in the United States is Pilgrim’s Pride, which processed 156.02 million pounds on a weekly basis in 2018. It is also a major producer of turkey, beef, pork and plant-based protein products.
