VDL Groep, headquartered in Eindhoven, Netherlands, has taken ownership of Jansen Poultry Equipment (JPE).

JEP, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high-quality poultry systems for the layer, breeding and broiler sectors, is a family business from Barneveld, Netherlands, and has a staff of about 125 employees. It’s annual turnover in 2019 exceeded EUR 50 million (US$59 million)

JPE, founded in 1986, specializes in the development and manufacturing of systems that are vital to the poultry sector, with a product range that includes housing systems, egg transport systems, unloading systems, air washers, heat exchangers and manure drying systems. JPE has a global dealer network and operates in more than 80 countries.

VDL, in a press release, stated that JPE will be a welcome addition to the company, as VDL Agrotech is a specialist in automated feeding systems for pig and poultry farmers. It is also a supplier of entire livestock systems. The acquisition of JPE will enable the company to be a more complete provider for the international poultry market.

The two companies have already been working together for several years, and VDL is confident the acquisition of JPE will further intensify the strength of their cooperation.

“Despite the many challenges due to the current conditions, this takeover is just right for us. We’re convinced JPE and VDL will reinforce each other,” said Willem van der Leegte, president and CEO of VDL Groep.

Ab Jansen, founder of JPE, stated: “I’m proud and thrilled about the fact that this takeover allows my employees to continue to work for a family business. It also offers long-term continuity for the business in Barneveld. I’m looking forward to intensifying the collaboration with VDL, which will largely hold on to our existing policy.”

Ab Jansen will serve VDL Groep in an advisory role, while Brian van Hoof, managing director of VDL Agrotech, will also manage JPE.
