Tyson Foods is looking for about 500 employees to work at its case-ready beef and pork plant in Eagle Mountain City, Utah.
According to a report from ABC4, the company hosted a job fair on June 24, related to the approaching opening of the new plant. The positions Tyson seeks to fill include general production, material handling and maintenance jobs, with the pay ranging from $17 to $28 per hour.
The plant is expected to eventually employ more than 1,200 people.
The facility is slated to open in mid-August.
Tyson Foods, along with state and local dignitaries, broke ground for the construction of the plant in October 2019. The construction project was valued at about $300 million.
According to the company, the plant will be a case-ready meat cutting and packaging operation that converts fresh beef and pork, brought in from other locations, into steaks, chops, roasts and ground beef. The products will be placed in trays, weighed and labeled, and then shipped to retailers for sale in grocery store meat cases.
"The future of the company in Utah is bright, and we're appreciative of the new jobs and corporate citizenship Tyson will bring to Utah Valley and the state," Val Hale, executive director of the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development, said at the time of the groundbreaking.
Tyson initially announced its intent to construct a case-ready Tyson Fresh Meats facility in Eagle Mountain City in May 2019.
Tyson Fresh Meats currently operates case-ready plants in Iowa, Tennessee and Texas.
Tyson Foods, headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, is the largest chicken producer in the United States and the fifth largest turkey producer. It is also one of the nation’s four largest beef producer and a major producer of pork. The company is also expanding its presence in the plant-based protein sector.
