A panel of poultry industry veterinarians and nutritionists will discuss the judicious use of antibiotics in the poultry industry during the IPPE in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 27.

A panel of poultry veterinarians will discuss what integrators have learned by going to a reduced or antibiotic-free poultry operation, and what challenges they still face at the 2016 International Production and Processing Expo in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 27, 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. This panel discussion is presented by WATT Global Media and sponsored by DuPont. Dr. Bruce Stewart-Brown, vice president of food safety and quality, Perdue Farms, and Dr. Brian Wooming, senior staff veterinarian, Cargill Turkey Products, Dr. Jeff Courtney, director of veterinarian services at Pilgrim's Pride and Dr. Alastair Thomas, business development manager at Danisco Animal Nutrition are confirmed as panelists.

Concerns over the impact of antibiotic resistant bacteria in human medicine have focused more attention on how antibiotics are used to treat food-producing livestock and poultry. In response to consumer and activist requests, food service giants in the U.S. like McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A and Subway have made pledges to purchase only poultry products coming from birds that either have never been treated with antibiotics or have not been treated with medically important antibiotics.
