From WATTAgNet:
Hayter’s Farm, a Canadian turkey company, is looking at the possibility of expanding it distribution of halal turkey products, including into the United States.
Hayter’s, which is located near Dashwood, Ontario, has been in business for 65 years, and for about the past 15 years, has been producing halal products through a partnership with a Toronto-based company. But with growing Muslim populations in Ontario’s London and Toronto metropolitan areas, Hayter’s has new marketing opportunities.
But it isn’t necessarily limiting itself to the north side of the U.S.-Canada border. Sean Maguire, Hayter’s operations manager, said the company is working with an American-based broker to market the company’s halal turkey in the United States. One specific area of interest is Dearborn, Michigan, which has a large Muslim population. The Eastern Europe market is also being considered because of that region's demand for halal food.
Hayter’s employs a full-time employee who is Muslim and performs the necessary rituals to enable the turkey products to earn the halal certification.
Hayter’s Farm, according to its website, is a third-generation family business.
