The Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec announced up to $13,860 in financial assistance for Québec-Oies under component 1 of the Programme d’appui à la compétitivité des abattoirs régionaux (PACAR). The company will use this money to fund a feasibility study for a project to establish a goose slaughterhouse in the Capitale-Nationale region.
Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Lawrence MacAulay, and Caroline Simard, Member of the Quebec National Assembly for Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré, on behalf of the Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Laurent Lessard, made the announcement, confirming the two governments’ desire to ensure the sustainability and development of animal production sectors by promoting increased competitiveness of slaughterhouses and improved slaughter services in response to regional or sectoral needs.
"The Government of Canada is proud to help producers and processors make their businesses more competitive. The establishment of a specialized slaughterhouse for geese would contribute to the development of this livestock sector and would create good jobs in this region," said Jean-Claude Poissant, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
"The Government of Quebec is orienting its actions in order to promote the prosperity for businesses in the bio-food sector. In this regard, Feeding Our World, of Quebec’s 2018–2025 bio-food policy supports investment in businesses to help them become prosperous, sustainable and innovative. This investment is also in line with government’s desire to see businesses in the bio-food sector make $15 billion in investments by 2025," said Laurent Lessard, Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
"Regional slaughterhouses, such as the one that Québec-Oies would like to establish, are an important part of developing the agri-food potential of Quebec’s regions. This investment will have economic benefits not only for this business but also for the Charlevoix-Côte-de-Beaupré riding, in addition to developing the region’s network of local slaughterhouses," said Caroline Simard, Member of the Quebec National Assembly for Charlevoix–Côte-de-Beaupré.
