Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in one more commercial turkey flock in Minnesota, bringing the state’s number of HPAI cases in commercial poultry flocks to 77.
The United States Department of Agriculture reported that HPAI was confirmed in a flock of 8,500 commercial turkeys in Stearns County on November 1. This marks the 12th case of HPAI in commercial turkeys in the county during 2021. All but one case involved meat turkeys, with the other involving turkey breeder hens. Stearns County also had one backyard poultry flock test positive for HPAI in March.
In addition to the 77 cases in commercial flocks, 28 backyard poultry flocks in Minnesota have been affected by HPAI.
To date, Minnesota has lost more than 3.8 million birds to HPAI.
So far in 2022, the following Minnesota counties have had commercial poultry flocks affected by HPAI: Stearns, Swift, Le Sueur, Otter Tail, Roseau, Brown, Meeker, Becker, Morrison, Dakota, Kandiyohi, Lyon, Yellow Medicine, Todd, Blue Earth, Waseca, Renville, Dodge and Lac Qui Parle.
