Malaysia urges use of local crops for feed

Country aims to lower meat, egg prices

According to reports, Malaysian feed producers are being urged by their government to source raw materials from their home country. The move could make meat and eggs less expensive for Malaysian consumers, according to Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar.

He also noted the livestock industry’s dependence on imported feed contributes to the RM17 billion national food bill.

Feed raw materials available in Malaysia include palm kernel cake, rice bran and copra cake.
