Tim Schellpeper named president of JBS USA fed beef business unit

JBS USA has selected Tim Schellpeper, a respected food executive with more than 25 years of industry experience, to lead its feedlot-fattened beef cattle (“fed beef”) business unit.

JBS USA has selected Tim Schellpeper, a respected food executive with more than 25 years of industry experience, to lead its feedlot-fattened beef cattle (“fed beef”) business unit. Schellpeper will oversee the company’s fed beef processing operations, including facilities in Cactus, Texas, Grand Island, Neb., Greeley, Colo., and Hyrum, Utah.

Schellpeper previously served as chief executive officer of Maschhoff Family Foods, the largest family-owned pig producer in North America. During Schellpeper’s time as CEO, Maschhoff Family Foods owned GNP Company, a leading provider of premium branded chicken products in the upper Midwest.

GNP Company is now owned by Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation.

Throughout his career, Schellpeper has held leadership positions in some of the most prominent agricultural businesses, focusing on operational excellence, logistics, sales, marketing and financial performance. He spent more than 21 years at Farmland Foods and Smithfield Foods, rising to the position of senior vice president of operations at Farmland and president and chief operating officer at Smithfield Packing Company, a leading processor and marketer of fresh pork and packaged meats in the United States. Schellpeper started his career at IBP in 1987.

In his new role, Schellpeper will lead JBS USA’s flagship fed beef business unit, which employs nearly 11,000 people and has the capacity to process more than 18,000 head of cattle per day. Leveraging his considerable experience, Schellpeper will guide the business unit’s efforts to enhance operational efficiencies and service the company’s domestic and international retail and foodservice customer base with industry-leading, high quality, fresh beef brands, including Swift, 1855, Aspen Ridge, and 5 Star Reserve.

A native of northeast Nebraska, where he grew up on his family's homestead, Schellpeper holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agri-business from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwest Missouri State University.
