Australian grain industry searches for representative

The 79-year-old Grains Council said it might have to close its offices if it is unable to generate enough funds.

The Australian grain industry has not yet determined which organization will represent it at the national level.

The Grain Growers Association seems like the obvious choice but its executive officer, Peter Flottman, refused to take on the job. Flottman said the organization does get involved in some industry roles but is not set-up like other farming groups.

Among other contenders are the Grains Council, the National Farmers Federation and Grain Trade Australia.

Last week, the 79-year-old Grains Council said it might have to close its offices if it is unable to generate enough funds.
