Police in Sanger, California, are investigating the death of a Pitman Family Farms employee.

Earlier this week, an employee was killed after he entered “a dangerous area between the tractor-trailer and its rear wheels, resulting in fatal injuries,” the Sanger Police Department informed the Fresno Bee.

The victim, identified as Jose Abrego, 19, Sanger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said there was no indication that foul play was involved.

The California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal OSHA) has been notified in the incident and involved in an investigation.

Earlier Pitman Family Farms fatality

The incident involving Abrego is the second fatal incident involving a worker at a Pitman Family Farms facility in less than 10 months.

On May 6, 2023, Jesus “Chuy” Salazar, 66, was assigned to check pipes around an indoor poultry waste pit, measuring 14 feet wide, 18 feet long and as deep as 25 feet.

A co-worker had apparently noticed Salazar was missing, so a supervisor notified police, expressing worries that he had maybe fallen into the pit. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office determined that the cause of Salazar’s death was drowning.
