International Rendering Symposium took place at 2024 IPPE

The event touched upon global biofuel, food and feed production.

The International Rendering Symposium, hosted alongside the 2024 International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta and sponsored by the North American Renderers Association (NARA) and U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY), explored the impact of rendered products on global biofuel, food and feed production.

Antonio Aburto, Ph.D., a poultry nutrition consultant, highlighted improved sustainability and faster poultry meat production with enhanced calorie conversion during his presentation on “The Use of Animal Proteins in Chicken and Egg Production.” The symposium emphasized the natural and sustainable nature of rendered products.

Session presenters Lucas Cypriano and Kent Swisher discussed the role of animal fats in achieving environmental carbon reduction and promoting affordable, clean energy production. Swisher also shared insights into NARA, representing over 95% of rendering in the U.S. and Canada since 1933.

Kyle Canning, group product manager at Scoular, focused on the economic significance of the rendering industry in his presentation, "More Than a Production Facility: Rendering in the Community." Canning underscored the industry's global reach, with fats and animal proteins traded in over 35 countries, led by major exporters like the United States, Indonesia, China, Vietnam and Mexico.

Notably, the symposium incorporated innovative features such as live translation services and virtual attendance options, marking a milestone for the event.
