The CEO of a leading poultry and feed company in Senegal is running for president of the African nation.

Anta Babacar Ngom, has been the CEO of Sedima since 2016, and now is seeking the Senegalese presidency. The current president is Maky Sall, who has held that office since 2012. Ngom is the country’s first female presidential candidate, according to a report from Anadolu Ajansi.

Sedima, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, is a national leader in Senegal’s poultry sector, supplying day-old chicks, feed, table eggs and poultry supplies and equipment. Its key product categories and chicken and table eggs. The company operates four hatcheries and one feed mill, which produces more than 250,000 metric tons of poultry and cattle feed per year. Sedima also is a KFC franchisee in Senegal.

Ngom told Anadolu Ajansi she did not have long-term political aspirations, but she does feel like she has an opportunity to foster national unity as president.

She is running on a platform of restructuring the economy and helping Senegal reach its full potential through large-scale industrialization and supporting the agriculture, aquaculture and tourism industries. She also said she is committed to environmental protection, education, public health and better opportunities for women.

An election is scheduled for March 24. Sall’s term ends on April 2.
