Argentina corn farmers accelerated their planting after strong rains over the past few weeks resulted in favorable soil moisture, according to reports.
Some regions received as much as 3.9 inches (100 millimeters) of rain, according to Tomas Parenti, an agricultural engineer at the Rosario Cereals Exchange. Producers in the main region may plant corn across 14% more land this season when compared to the 2010-2011 season, said Parenti. Right now, the crop in the main area is about 80% planted and will cover roughly 870,000 hectares.
