Evonik Industries is moving forward with plans to construct a Biolys (a source of L-lysine) manufacturing plant in Volgodonsk, Russia, set to begin operations in 2014 with an annual capacity of 100,000 metric tons of product.
Evonik is sharing the venture with the Russian Varshavsky Group, and the results will primarily serve the Russian market. Evonik's fermentation technology will be used in production of Biolys, and wheat for the process will be gathered from the Rostov region, according to the companies.
