Foster Farms Inc. plans to kick off a new awareness program, which involves television advertising, events, online and out-of-home components, on April 13.

The campaign will focus on the practice of injecting fresh chicken with brine solutions. Foster Farms does not sell any “plumped” or “basted" fresh chicken.

The company’s promotional campaign will extol the health benefits of a low sodium diet. Foster will try to position its fresh chicken as the low-sodium alternative to brands that are basted.

According to a Foster Farms press release, the average serving of injected chicken contains more sodium than a large order of French fries or more than 25% of the daily recommended allowance.
