Algeria has reported outbreaks of Newcastle disease to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), following no reports since 2002.

Four outbreaks on poultry farms have been notified comprising 416,200 birds, and over 80 percent have either died, been destroyed or slaughtered.

The origin of the disease, detected in late May, remains unknown, however the outbreaks are said to be ongoing. Screening, vaccination and disinfection have been carried out on infected and surrounding premises.
