IPPE to host Poultry Handling and Transportation Workshop

USPOULTRY will host a Poultry Handling and Transportation “Train the Trainer” Workshop for poultry transporters and catch crews

U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) will host a Poultry Handling and Transportation “Train the Trainer” Workshop for poultry transporters and catch crews. The program is scheduled for Jan. 27, and is $250 for all registered International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) attendees. The workshop is limited to 30 participants.

The Poultry Handling and Transportation (PHT) program provides certification training for poultry transporters and catch crews. It was developed by a team of poultry scientists and veterinarians from Pennsylvania State University, the USDA and transportation industry professionals and is currently managed by USPOULTRY. PHT training gives companies and contract crews and their employees an understanding of poultry welfare, good management practices, biosecurity and emergency planning. Attendees will also develop tools to train non-English-speaking (primarily Spanish) employees.

In conjunction with IPPE, PHT is pleased to offer a combined certification and “Train the Trainer” workshop specifically for those individuals wishing to become PHT certified trainers. In addition to attending the workshop and passing the certification exam, there are additional prerequisites for becoming a PHT certified trainer listed on the PHT website at www.uspoultryhandling.org.

IPPE is expected to attract more than 28,000 attendees and is a collaboration of three trade shows—International Feed Expo, International Poultry Expo and International Meat Expo—representing the entire chain of protein production and processing. More information about IPPE, including registration details, lodging and education offerings, is available at www.ippexpo.org.
