H1N1 tops bird flu toll

WHO says H1N1 has claimed 311 lives and infected over 70,000.

The H1N1 is more devastating than H5N1, according to a Financial Times report that quoted the latest World Health Organization figures.

According to WHO, H1N1 has claimed 311 lives and infected over 70,000. The number for avian influenza stood at 262 and 431.

The H1N1 virus has proven to be easily transmitted, with projections of infecting up to 33% of a typical population. Provisional data says it affects different groups, notably younger adults, pregnant women and those with underlying health conditions.
