A 1,000-foot long barn and about 6,000 turkeys inside it were lost to a fire that occurred in the early morning hours of November 9 in Stearns County, Minnesota.

The fire was reported at 1:21 a.m. at St. Martin Farm, a fourth-generation family farming operation, reported Fox 9 News. The barn was heavily involved in flames by the time firefighters arrived at the scene.

The fire was brought under control and other structures and turkeys at the farm were protected from harm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Stearns County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Jon Lenz indicated it could have been related to a source of heating.

The company for which the farm was raising the turkeys was not identified.

The family intends to clean up the debris and rebuild the lost barn.
