Poultry nutritionist W. Milton Hedrixson dead at age 98

W. Milton Hendrixson Jr., 98, of Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, N.C., died January 3, 2018.

He was born in Georgetown, Ohio to Wilbur M. Hendrixson Sr. and Edna Liming Hendrixson. He spent much of his early life in Marietta, Ohio. He attended Marietta College and graduated from Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) with a degree in chemical engineering. He also went for further education in animal nutrition.

He began his career in Ohio working for Kentucky Chemical, which became Provico Feeds in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1958, he moved his family to Winchester, Kentucky, where he worked for Browning Turkey Farms, a company that hatched, raised, and processed turkeys. In 1967, he moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina, to work for Goldsboro Milling Co., where he was a nutritionist. He continued to work well into his retirement years.

Hendrixson was inducted into the North Carolina Poultry Hall of Fame in 2010.

Hendrixson was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro, where he has served a deacon and elder. He was on the committee to establish the Kirkwood Retirement Community and served on the board.

He also had been a member of the Kiwanis Club in Winchester, Kentucky, where he served as president, and Goldsboro, North Carolina. He has been a member of the Madisonville-Madeira–Mariemont Masonic Lodge 419, Cincinnati, Ohio, since 1947.

He was a longtime member of the Walnut Creek Country Club and enjoyed playing golf into his late 80s.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie B. Davis Hendrixson; his son, Owen D. Hendrixson; sister, M. Elaine Hendrixson McFarland; and brother, Lewis O. Hendrixson.

He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Kerns and husband, Jerry, of Nashville, Indiana; Holly Dozier and husband, Gerry, of Goldsboro, North Carolina; daughter-in-law, Marsha Nestor Hendrixson of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Scott Dozier and wife, Arielle of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeffrey Dozier and wife, Cassie of Greenville, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Dozier, Lillian (Lily) Dozier, Rhys Dozier and Iris Dozier; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Margorie Davis Egger.
