The Kansas State University IGP Institute is pleased to announce the promotion of Trina Adams as the distance education manager effective March 12. Adams previously served as the distance education coordinator.
Adams joined the institute in February 2016 and worked to support the efforts of the distance education trainings offered through the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS)-KSU program.
She has more than 19 years of time working in professional development as well as prior work experience in distance education and instructional design. She recently completed a master’s degree in instructional design and technology from Emporia State University.
“Trina is a huge asset to the GEAPS–KSU program,” says Brandi Miller, IGP Institute associate director and online education and professional development coordinator. She adds, “Under Trina’s leadership, we’ve been able to take our programming to the next level with a focus on learner-centric
content.” In 2017, the IGP Institute and its partners trained more than 900 participants in 44 distance courses.
Regarding the future, Adams says that she is looking forward to helping each of those online training partners reach their individual organizational goals. She explains that “our program goals are set by the professional organizations because we support their needs.” For some that may mean delivering material in other languages, while others may be exploring on-demand learning opportunities.
“With the GEAPS–KSU program we are revising the current course catalog and exploring collaborative opportunities,” says Adams. She adds, “We are also evaluating the need for additional industry-wide credentials.”
Miller believes that Adams is the right person to take the program to the next level. She says that Adams has the technical expertise and vision to best meet the educational needs of grain industry professionals.
For Adams the most rewarding part of her job is helping people grow their skills for the betterment of the global society.
