Smith brings additional food safety expertise to Diamond V in Europe

Dr. Doug Smith is returning to Diamond V as Director, Europe Poultry Food Safety, operating out of The Netherlands.

Dr. Doug Smith is returning to Diamond V as Director, Europe Poultry Food Safety, operating out of The Netherlands.

“I am happy to announce that Doug has rejoined the Diamond V team,” says Chris Van Anne, Managing Director of Diamond V’s European Business Unit, "adding his expertise to our food safety strength in Europe. In his new role, he will be responsible for development and implementation of food safety programs for poultry and egg producers, food companies, and retailers in Europe. His main focus will be working to reduce the risk of Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E. coli within production and processing systems, primarily through pre-harvest interventions.”

Dr. Smith previously worked at Diamond V as Food Safety Director as well as holding food safety and quality assurance roles at various other food industry companies. Dr. Smith also has enjoyed a research and academic career, having held faculty positions at North Carolina State University and the University of Georgia, where he earned his PhD and MS in poultry science. He currently works at Clemson University in Extension Food Safety and is also an adjunct faculty member of the Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences Department. Dr. Smith has authored 100 refereed journal articles and three book chapters. He has written for more than 200 other publications.
