Avian influenza H9 found in Guangdong, China

A Guangdong woman’s illness raises outbreak concerns

A Shenzhen, China, resident was confirmed ill with H9 flu November 4, raising concerns of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) outbreaks in the Guangdong province, said Guangdong Provincial Agriculture Department.

The patient did not come into contact with any poultry, and no AI outbreaks have been reported in Guangdong as of November 6, said the official statement. So far, local poultry production and trade remain stable, added the government.

The patient is currently undergoing treatment in Hong Kong.
