Collecting performance metrics through artificial intelligence could help incentivize workers in poultry processing and better manage productivity in real-time, improving employee retention.

“By connecting work activities into scores, and tracking those to rewards, growth and competition, we are adding game mechanics into nongame environments to increase the participation of the workforce. The goal of gamification is to engage with workers to inspire them to enjoy work and collaborate with their team,” Dr. Jason Guss, CEO of Iterate Labs, explained.

Guss is one of the many experts scheduled to speak at the Poultry Tech Summit, scheduled for October 31 – November 2, 2021. This one-of-a-kind in-person and on-demand event facilitates the transition of innovation technologies from researchers and entrepreneurs into commercial applications for the benefit of the poultry industry. Make plans to attend and take a look at the future of the industry.

Registration for the 2021 Poultry Tech Summit is now open.

Labor challenges

Poultry processing facilities have faced increased workforce challenges over the past year due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. As a result, interest in technology solutions that can help reduce labor issues and improve worker safety has accelerated.

“Currently, labor availability is the top problem facing the poultry industry, as facilities are struggling to have enough workers in the facility to maintain production, leading to millions in lost production,” Guss said. “Simply paying more and providing paid vacation is not solving the problem, emphasizing that new technology and engagement strategies are necessary. “

Turning worker metrics into personal scores

The technology uses a smartwatch and computer vision system to digitally track and gamify worker performance.

Individual metrics are turned into personal scores to track performance and goals. For example, worker motion could be translated into families fed, calories burned and more to let workers see the real-world effects of their actions.

This is also a simple way to turn performance into achievable goals for career growth and promotion, recognize top performers and work towards rewards such as gift cards, money, breaks, time off and more.
