Mountaire hosting community Thanksgiving

Holiday meal program to feed 129,000 in four states

Mountaire Farms is partnering with hundreds of churches and non-profits in four states this Thanksgiving to pack 32,250 meal boxes to give to families in need, enough to feed 129,000 people for Thanksgiving.

The company’s annual Thanksgiving for Thousands event will be held on Delmarva on Monday, November 21st, starting at 8 am. More than 300 volunteers will help pack 11,000 meal boxes–with enough food to feed almost 50,000 people.

Each box, which is donated by box manufacturer DS Smith, is stuffed with a plump Mountaire roaster chicken, yams, gravy, corn, green beans, cranberries, stuffing and brownies for dessert.

“We look forward to this time of year to be able to bring the community together to do something positive for people who need it the most,” said Phillip Plylar, president of Mountaire Farms. “It’s been a blessing for our company and for our employees who help pack boxes every year right alongside community volunteers. It’s at the heart of who we are as a company.”

Local churches, non-profits and community organizations who are pre-registered for the event will be picking up boxes at several locations on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. All groups have been pre-registered and given instructions on how and where to pick up their assigned allotment. For information on walk up locations where boxes are available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, visit mountaire.com.

In North Carolina, volunteers and employees packed 1,250 boxes in Statesville last Friday and distributed them on Saturday at Power Cross Ministries. The company’s breeder operation is located Iredell County.

This weekend, other packing events include:

Lumber Bridge – 10,000 boxes – packing and distributing 11/19/22

Siler City – 10,000 boxes – packing and distributing 11/19/22

The company’s Thanksgiving for Thousands program also feeds people at Christmas and Easter, and is now in its 28th year.
