Elanco forms food safety business unit

Plans to offer pre- and post-harvest solutions

Elanco, a division of Eli Lilly and Company, will launch a new business platform focused on food safety. Elanco Food Solutions will market food-safety products and services to the food-animal industry. Offerings will include the Food Safety Knowledge Solutions program, a benchmarking system to help packers and processors effectively manage their pathogen-control systems.

“We realize there is no single ‘silver-bullet’ solution, which is why we will deliver multiple pre- and post-harvest interventions for beef, poultry and pork packers and processors,” said K. Douglas Miller, director of business operations, who has a doctorate in animal science from the University of Illinois.

Elanco has named several other members of the Elanco Food Solutions leadership team:

  • David Cobb, director of marketing, joined Elanco in 1982 and has led new-product launches in more than 15 countries.
  • Tom Nicholson, director of sales and technical services, has more than 20 years of experience in the animal-health industry and has spent the last several years commercializing new food-safety technologies.
  • Patrick Mies, technical consultant, will support the company’s beef food-safety technologies. He has a doctorate in meat science from Texas A&M University.
  • Rob Ames, associate brand manager, was a coauthor of the 1995 National Beef Quality Audit, and focused on sales and marketing programs for Ivy Natural Solutions’ food-safety technologies prior to joining Elanco.
