Majority of ‘halal’ poultry in UK mislabeled, group finds

Most Muslim authorities forbid machine slaughter

The English Beef and Lamb Executive Halal Steering Group says that up to 75% of poultry and some UK beef and lamb labeled as “halal” in the United Kingdom do not actually meet the standard, according to the UK Press Association.

Most Muslim authorities say that animals must be slaughtered by people, rather than machines, to be considered halal, said group spokesman Naved Syed. "If you told Muslims it was done by a machine they wouldn't buy it," he said.
