The North Alabama International Trade Association has recognized poultry breeding company Aviagen Inc. with its Global Trade Award for 2010. The annual award honors a North Alabama company or organization for its dedication to and success in international trade development. Aviagen has been exporting products for more than 15 years.

Don Hachen, Aviagen’s director of global planning, accepted the Global Trade Award during ceremonies at NAITA’s 27th Annual World Trade Luncheon in Huntsville, Ala., on April 8. “We are proud to play such an important role here in Huntsville and around the world as we serve our customers globally,” said Hachen. “Aviagen brands have been a mainstay in the global poultry industry for over 75 years and exports are a key ingredient to Aviagen’s strength and future growth as we continue to develop new markets.”

Aviagen’s export volume in 2009 was approximately 12 million chicks. Export sales figures have increased 31% over the last two years, and international sales make up almost 50% of Aviagen’s total sales. The company provides day-old broiler breeder chicks and hatching eggs to customers in 130 countries around the world located in North America, Central America, South America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
