NACMCF re-chartered to add consumer group representative

The National Advisory Committee on Microbiological Criteria for Foods (NACMCF) has been re-chartered to include a consumer group representative. The NACMCF provides recommendations on microbiological criteria by which the safety of food can be assessed, including the criteria for microorganisms that indicate whether foods have been properly processed.

The NACMCF provides recommendations on microbiological criteria by which the safety of food can be assessed, including the criteria for microorganisms that indicate whether foods have been properly processed. "NACMCF provides valuable information and recommendations to [the Food Safety and Inspection Service] that further promote our food safety and foodborne illness prevention actions," said FSIS Administrator Al Almanza.

There are currently 18 members on the Committee; 12 more members will be appointed in 2011.
