Dr. Cathie Woteki was recently appointed Under Secretary for Research, Education and Economics at the USDA following confirmation. She held the position of Deputy Under Secretary at the USDA in 1996.
She has extensive experience in industry serving as the Manager of Scientific Policy and Research for Mars Inc. and was the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Deputy Associate Director for Science from 1994 to 1996.
She was also director of the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences from 1990 to 1993. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in human nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
