Tyson Foods has had to stop or limit production at its plant in Shelbyville, Tennessee, over the past week due to black specks in its water supply, according to a local news report.
Local Tyson plant officials had contacted the mayor and Shelbyville & Bedford County Chamber of Commerce CEO Allen Pitner "to express their concern (and their frustration)." Tyson was critical of what was termed a "lack of urgency" in the response.
According to the report, crews worked overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 19-20 to flush the lines. The black specs were a result of iron buildup from inside water pipe walls, possibly jarred loose by recent thunderstorms.
