Aviagen and Jamesway host seminar on embryonic heat

Aviagen and Jamesway Incubator Company Inc. collaboratively hosted a one-day seminar on managing embryonic heat.

Aviagen and Jamesway Incubator Company Inc., two global companies dedicated to servicing and supporting the poultry industry, collaboratively hosted a one-day seminar at the Delta Calgary Airport Hotel in Alberta Canada recently. The topic of the seminar was an important one to the poultry industry – “Managing Embryonic Heat.”

Managing an optimal embryonic temperature is critical to chick quality. In the hatchery, it is crucial to maintain an optimal balance between a bird’s heat production and heat loss. Inadequate embryonic heat management can lead to dehydration and degradation in chick quality. With a topic this important to hatchery managers, it was no surprise that the joint Aviagen-Jamesway seminar drew 30 delegates from across western Canada.

Aviagen Incubationist Dr. Nirada Leksrisompong began the seminar by describing the effect of embryo temperature on broiler performance in her presentation entitled “Embryo Temperature During Incubation and Its Effect on Broiler Performance.” Leksrisompong’s presentation was followed by an exploration into the mechanics of managing embryonic heat in multi-stage incubators by Jerry Garrison, Jamesway Consultant and Technical Advisor. Garrison later described how the same embryonic heat could also be managed in single-stage incubators.

The seminar concluded with Aviagen Incubation Specialist Eddy Van Lierde’s presentation stressing the importance of “The Optimal Egg Pack Delivering a Quality Hatch.”
