The National Turkey Federation (NTF) released a statement today following NTF Vice Chairman Ron Kardel’s testimony at a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing on the state of the livestock and poultry industries. Kardel, a turkey farmer and corn farmer, is Vice Chairman of West Liberty Foods.
The hearing also featured testimony from several other producers from the livestock and poultry industries.
“While turkey may have its big day on Thanksgiving, it’s a great protein source year-round. I see significant potential for the turkey industry’s growth in the near future, but we need to make sure policies coming out of Washington that affect agriculture and food manufacturing are common sense and preserve rural America’s ability to thrive,” said Kardel in his testimony.
“Ron Kardel has seen firsthand the industry-wide challenges faced by our members throughout his tenure in NTF leadership, and he represented the turkey industry exceptionally well at today’s hearing,” said Joel Brandenberger, NTF president. “Thank you to Chairman Roberts and Ranking Member Stabenow for the chance to share the story of America’s turkey growers and provide our unique perspective regarding the future of animal agriculture.”
