Sanderson Farms’ Monroe elected chair of USAPEEC board

Steve Monroe, manager of export sales at Sanderson Farms in Laurel, Mississippi, has been elected chairman of the board of the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) for 2016-17.

Steve Monroe, manager of export sales at Sanderson Farms in Laurel, Mississippi, has been elected chairman of the board of the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) for 2016-17.

Monroe succeeds outgoing Chairman Jim Wayt, managing director of Intervision Foods in Atlanta. His election came on June 16 during USAPEEC’s annual meeting at Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

As chairman, Monroe will head the 30-member USAPEEC board of directors, which sets policy and gives direction to USAPEEC, an organization whose mission is to promote and increase exports of U.S. chicken, turkey, duck, and egg products worldwide.

Other USAPEEC elected positions

Elected to the USAPEEC Executive Committee were Marc Killebrew, vice president of international sales at Tyson Foods in Springdale, Arkansas, first vice chairman; and Butch Johnson, director of Globex International USA, Atlanta, second vice chairman. Joel Coleman, vice president and general manager of international sales at Butterball in Mt. Olive, North Carolina, was re-elected secretary-treasurer of the organization.

Rounding out the executive committee are Ryan Downes, sales manager at Farbest Foods in Huntingburg, Indiana, new at-large member, and Scott Chapman, vice president of industry relations at Lineage Logistics in Richmond, Virginia, associate member-at-large. Wayt will remain on the executive as past-chairman.

Neil Carey of Simmons Prepared Foods in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, was re-named chairman of USAPEEC’s marketing committee. The chairman of this committee also serves on the board and has a seat on the executive committee.

New board members elected are Mark Barrett of Lamex Foods, Mike Briggs of Vilas and Co., Bill Duggan of Maersk Line, Daniel Fripp of Foster Farms, Fabio Sandri of Pilgrim’s, Jay Maxwell of Jennie-O Turkey Store, John Patchoski of Koch Foods, Martin Piffaretti of Eastern Poultry, and Sujith Niyangoda of e&e Global.

Board members elected to three-year terms ending in 2019 are Barrett, Briggs, Downes, Duggan, Fripp, Thomas Isaf, Interra International; Jeff Johnson, Deb-El Foods; Kent Puffenbarger, Prestage Foods; Sandri; and Bobby Wilburn, Peco Foods.

Board members elected to terms ending in 2018 are Mark Blanchard, NOCS; Coleman; Greg Hinton, Rose Acre Farms; Killebrew; Maxwell; Monroe; Patchoski; Piffaretti; Saher Rizk, Mirasco; and Wayt.

Board members elected to three-year terms ending in 2017 are Carey; Chapman; Johnson; Mike Little, Mountaire Farms; Randy Meyers, OK Foods; Thierry Murad, AJC International; Niyangoda; Jay Simpson, Perdue Foods; Greg Tench, Mar-Jac Poultry; and Chaz Wilson, Grove Services.

Board expanded by five members

Also at the meeting, members approved a proposal to amend the USAPEEC by-laws to expand the board by five members.
