A protest took place outside of the Case Farms poultry plant in Morganton, North Carolina, on August 14, with demonstrators claiming that workers at the plant are not allowed to take breaks to use the restroom when needed.
Protesters claim that the situation is so severe that many workers feel the need to wear a diaper while working, because they fear they will be written up if they leave the lines to take a bathroom break. According to allegations, it could be as long as 2.5 hours before workers are allowed a 10-minute break.
Case Farms, which is the 14th largest broiler company in the United States, stated that while it takes employee concerns very seriously, that the allegations of worker mistreatment are simply not true.
'Case Farms has recently been targeted by the Western North Carolina Workers Center and Interfaith Worker Justice at the Morganton division regarding working conditions. We respectfully disagree with the allegations made by the aforementioned parties,' the company stated.
'We at Case Farms are grateful to have such hard-working, dedicated and loyal employees as the backbone of our company. While we've always been committed to the success and welfare of our employees, we continually seek ways to make improvements.'

Rubber boots cover the feet of poultry plant workers who stand on them for hours at a time. Rubber gloves cover the worker’s hands, which work at whatever speed the never-ending disassembly line requires — at a constant rate known to cause swelling and pain.
