From WATTAgNet:

Koch Foods has been ordered by a court jury to pay about $1.9 million to a former worker who was injured at a poultry plant in Montgomery County, Alabama.

Leon Battle had filed a lawsuit against the company, after he lost four fingers while trying to repair machinery at the facility. Battle alleged that a safety gate, which should have cut the power to the equipment was not functioning properly, resulting in the injury. Battle further alleged that he was told by a manager that he would be terminated if he hired a lawyer after being injured.

The jury ruled in favor of Battle, according to a report from WSFA.

Koch Foods, according to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, is the fifth largest broiler company in the United States. In 2016, it produced 50 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis. Its company brands are Koch Poultry, Antioch Farms, Cravers, Rogers Royal and Mr. Bennies. It also produces private-label chicken.

Two days ago, the company announced plans to build a new feed mill in Roanoke, Alabama. That mill will support the company’s poultry processing operations in Pine Mountain, Georgia.

Koch Foods is headquartered in Chicago.
