Brazil exports 281,800 MT of chicken meat in January

The figure is not only lower than the exports of chicken meat reported in 2018 but also to those of 2017, according to ABPA data.

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) reported that chicken meat exports (which includes all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 330,900 metric tons (MT) in January. The volume is 14.7 percent lower than the 330,500 MT shipped in the same period of 2018.

In revenues, chicken meat exports for the month reached US$453 million, a balance 12.9 percent lower than the result of January last year, with US$20.2 million.

Pork exports (which includes all products, fresh and processed) reached 48,500 MT, volume 10.7 percent lower than the 54,400 MT exported in the first month of 2018.

With this performance, the foreign exchange result of exports closed the month at US$91.6 million, a 17.8 percent decrease compared to the balance for the same period of 2018, of US$111.4 million.

"There were specific reductions in the flow of exports, which should be resumed in February," explained Francisco Turra, president of ABPA.
