Global animal health and nutrition company Alltech welcomed Professor Maurice Boland to the European team, based out of Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland. Boland will join Alltech as a research director, having spent the previous 40 years as a faculty member at University College Dublin School of Agriculture.
Before joining Alltech, Boland held the position of head of the department of animal science for nine years, associate dean for research for three years and dean of the faculty of agri-food and environment for two years. In January 2008, he was appointed as principal of the College of Life Sciences and vice president at University College Dublin, and in September 2011, he went on to become principal of the College of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine, and principal of the College of Health Sciences.
Boland, whose work has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals, brings with him a considerable breadth of knowledge and experience to spearhead Alltech’s latest initiatives in the field of dairy cow fertility and sustainability.
“The biggest focus in the dairy industry right now is fertility, health and longevity. In addition to this, the agriculture industry will play a significant role in producing quality food in a sustainable manner for 9 billion people by 2050. These are crucial issues that I aim to address during my time as research director with Alltech,” said Boland.

Having supervised more than 70 master’s and doctorate students, Professor Boland will prove an unparalleled resource as Alltech moves forward in tackling the issues of dairy cow fertility, carbon footprint and sustainability of the agriculture industry,” said Kevin Tuck, managing director for Alltech’s European Bioscience Center.
