Bell Food Group, a diversified food company and Switzerland’s largest poultry producer, reported a strong first half for the 2023 fiscal year.

Despite inflation, volatile market circumstances and difficult weather conditions, Bell Food Group posted a net revenue of CHF2.2 billion (US$2.5 billion) which was a 7% increase when compared to the first half of 2022.

“We’ve managed the challenges caused by persistently high inflation in particular very well,” said Lorenz Wyss, CEO of Bell Food Group. “This was only made possible by consistent cost management, efficiency enhancements and the prompt implementation of price increases.”

In a press release, the company stated, “Remarkably, sales of sustainable poultry increased.”

The company’s poultry products are sold under the Bell brand, and the company reported that its Bell Switzerland business segment saw a 1.1% increase in sales revenue to CCF1.06 billion and its Bell International segment’s sales revenue rose 10.3% to CHF570.2 million.

Also included in the Bell business segments are the sales of meat, seafood and charcuterie.

“The performance of the Bell Switzerland business area was once again stable at a high level. The retail market has normalized since the previous year, and the food service market grew slightly in spite of the capricious weather and the inflation-driven shift in consumer demand towards cheaper product ranges. The Bell International business area also matched the previous year’s good result. The important element was that the inflation-driven rise in operating costs was compensated by price increases,” the press release stated.

According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, Bell Food Group slaughtered 25.5 million broilers during the past year.
