Seven European universities and research institutes and three industrial partners have partnered to form the BioBusiness Project team.
The BioBusiness Project is researching problems related to animal welfare. One of topics is predicting animal behavior, with a focus on the aggressive behavior in pigs. Fancom is contributing to research into the automatic monitoring of such behavior. Researcher Maciej Oczak, who has a three-year contract at Fancom, is part of the project team that is concentrating on developing visual and auditory techniques that continuously monitor and detect undesirable pig behavior. The ultimate objective is to develop a system that manages behavior using negative conditioning techniques so as to prevent unwanted aggressive behavior.
