US turkey eggs, poults up in July

U.S. turkey eggs in incubators on Aug. 1 totaled 28.7 million, up 1 percent from 2011 numbers but down 4 percent from the July 1, 2012 total of 29.8 million eggs, according to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture report. Turkey poults hatched during July totaled 25.6 million, up 3 percent from July 2011 numbers and up 2 percent from the June 2012 total of 25 million poults.

Turkey poults hatched during July totaled 25.6 million, up 3 percent from July 2011 numbers and up 2 percent from the June 2012 total of 25 million poults. The 25.2 million net poults placed during July were up 1 percent from the number placed during the same month in 2011. Net placements were also up 1 percent from the June 2012 total of 24.9 million, according to the USDA.
