Layer numbers decline again

Table egg type layer numbers on August 1 were 2 percent below year-earlier levels, according to USDA’s Chicken and Eggs report. Eggs per 100 layers were 1 percent above previous-year levels.

Four of the top 10 states in layer numbers increased during July. In table egg flocks 30,000 and above, Iowa was up 1 percent; Ohio, up 3 percent; Indiana, down 3 percent; Pennsylvania, up 1 percent; California, up 5 percent; Texas, down 3 percent; Florida, down 4 percent; Nebraska, down 13 percent; Minnesota, down 7 percent; and Georgia, down 3 percent.
