PETA demands specifics from McDonald’s

PETA is asking that the fast food giant McDonald’s say where it stands in practice—not policy—on three specific animal welfare issues.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) wants to know the number of cage-free eggs that the McDonald’s uses in the United States, the amount of crate-free pig meat that the company uses, and whether or not the company gives preference to chicken suppliers that use controlled-atmosphere killing.

McDonald’s is the world’s largest fast-food restaurant chain, serving nearly 54 million customers daily.

A representative of PETA owns 79 shares of McDonald’s stock and said he would present a statement at the company’s annual meeting.
