Indonesian boy dies, tests indicate AI

The West Java Barat resident had developed a fever for 10 days

A young boy, a resident of Kampung Kandang, Desa Sukaraya, Bekasi, West Java Barat, died at Persahabatan Hospital, East Jakarta on Feb. 28. The suspected cause of death was avian influenza infection, according to ProMed-Mail.

The boy had previously been treated for six hours at Anisa Hospital and then transferred to Persahabatan Hospital where laboratory test results indicated bird flu infection.

According to the victim's parents, their son developed a fever for 10 days. They only found out that their son had contracted the bird flu virus after the hospital did not allow the boy's coffin to be opened.
